What is a Cartridge Tool ?

A cartridge tool is primarily used for fixing nails to concrete, steel or wood using explosive cartridges. Also known as Paslode nail gun training. This is included in the TUPPCO NPORS Cartridge Tool training – N701

What does the TUPPCO NPORS Cartridge Tool training course include?

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular equipment to be used with other sources of information and relevant legislation
  • Be able to locate and identify the controls of the machine and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
  • Configure the equipment for use
  • Select the correct cartridges for given tasks.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Storage and transport of cartridge tool
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

HSE further information:

Theory assessment:

  • 20 multiple choice questions
  • 5 written questions
  • 4 marks per question
  • 80% pass mark required

Practical assessment criteria:

  • Pre use and operational checks.
  • Load cartridge
  • Load nails
  • Task 1 – Material to be fastened eg wood, drywall track, partitioning, must build a suitable square frame – alternative can be build a pallet
  • Task 2 – Material to be fastened to base material eg concrete, masonry, must fasten minimum of one product to concrete and one to masonry
  • Task 3 – Material to be fastened eg steel must fasten a minimum of two products
  • All tasks must be completed to gain full card, restrictions to card will apply if only 1 or 2 of tasks have been completed
  • End of use checks
  • Pass mark is less than 20 penalty points and no mandatory disqualifications Time allowed is 40 minutes
