Lantra Tractor Training in the Spring Sunshine – Ruskin Mill, April 2026
In April 2026, under clear blue skies and warm spring sunshine, Tuppco delivered a comprehensive Lantra-accredited tractor training course at the beautiful Ruskin Mill site. Led by experienced instructor Bertie Tupper, the session combined practical hands-on learning with essential safety knowledge, tailored to the unique environment of the location.
Practical, Hands-On Tractor Training
The course focused on giving candidates real-world experience operating agricultural machinery safely and effectively. Both participants demonstrated strong engagement throughout the day, gaining confidence as they progressed through a range of key tractor operations.
Training included:
-
Front-End Loader Operations – Safe handling, lifting techniques, and load control
-
3-Point Linkage Use – Correct attachment, adjustment, and implement handling
-
PTO (Power Take-Off) – Understanding safe engagement, risks, and maintenance awareness
-
Trailed Equipment – Hitching, maneuvering, and safe transport across the site
Each candidate successfully demonstrated their ability to operate the tractor and associated equipment, meeting the expected Lantra training standards.
Safety First: Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
Given the nature of the Ruskin Mill site, particular emphasis was placed on risk assessment and safety planning. With vulnerable individuals present in the surrounding environment, it was essential that all tractor operations were conducted with heightened awareness and responsibility.
Key safety elements covered:
-
Identifying site-specific hazards
-
Implementing safe systems of work (SSoW)
-
Maintaining clear communication and visibility
-
Managing movements in shared spaces
-
Understanding duty of care when working near vulnerable persons
