Lantra Tractor Training in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds

Lantra Tractor Training in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds

Tractors are the workhorse of every farm, estate and grounds maintenance team, but they are also one of the leading causes of serious accidents in agriculture. Overturns on slopes, PTO entanglement and poorly hitched trailers can all have life-changing consequences. That is why proper, accredited operator training matters.

Tuppco delivers Lantra tractor training onsite across Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds and beyond. Our Lantra Tractor Driving (TRA03) course gives operators the knowledge, skills and confidence to use tractors and attachments safely, using your own machines on your own ground.

What Does the Lantra Tractor Driving Course Cover?

The course combines classroom theory with plenty of practical driving. Candidates learn to:

  • Understand their responsibilities as an operator and the main hazards of tractor work, including overturning, pedestrians and unstable ground
  • Use the manufacturer’s handbook and identify the tractor’s main components and controls
  • Carry out pre-use checks, set up exclusion zones and select the right PPE
  • Attach and set up trailers, 3-point linkage implements and PTO-driven equipment
  • Drive safely across slopes, uneven ground and confined spaces
  • Load and unload machinery for transport, and carry out end-of-shift shutdown procedures

The course can also be tailored to the work your team does, with variations covering trailed equipment, PTO equipment, 3-point linkage equipment and front end loaders.

How is the course assessed?

The theory test is 25 multiple-choice questions with an 80% pass mark. The practical test includes pre-use checks, hill starts on slopes, driving a chicane forwards and backwards, reversing 30 metres in a straight line, hitching a trailer, attaching a 3-point linkage implement and running a PTO attachment. Candidates pass with fewer than 35 penalty points and no mandatory faults.

Who Is Lantra Tractor Training For?

The course suits anyone who drives a tractor at work, from farm and estate staff to grounds maintenance teams, landscapers and construction operatives. Candidates must be at least 16.

Successful candidates receive a Lantra Awards TRA03 certificate and a Lantra card valid for 5 years, giving employers clear evidence of competence for insurance, audits and HSE compliance.

Why Choose Onsite Tractor Training with Tuppco?

Tuppco brings the training to you. Operators learn on the tractors, attachments and terrain they use every day, so the skills transfer straight back to the job. There is no travel to a training centre and less downtime for your team.

Courses are led by Lantra-approved instructors, including Tuppco founder Bertie Tupper, with years of hands-on agricultural and machinery experience. We regularly train teams on farms and estates around Cirencester and Cheltenham, and across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Somerset and the wider South and Midlands. Recent courses include a Lantra refresher tractor course for Ubico in Cheltenham and tractor training at Ruskin Mill.

For a smooth training day, you will need a tractor with its operator’s manual, a trailer, a 3-point linkage and PTO implement (such as a topper or power harrow), an area with slopes and varied terrain, and somewhere suitable for the theory session.

Many estates train their teams across several machines at once. Tuppco also delivers:
