Tuppco Delivers NPORS Skid Steer Training at Wyatt and Sons Fencing Contractors Near Bath

Tuppco was pleased to deliver a focused NPORS Skid Steer training and assessment day at the headquarters of Wyatt and Sons Fencing Contractors, located just outside Bath. The one-day course was tailored for two experienced operators looking to formalise and expand their skills, with particular emphasis on the safe and effective use of attachments.

Practical, Site-Relevant Training

Both candidates brought valuable real-world experience to the session, having recently been working at a local wildlife park installing fencing. During that project, the use of a stand-on skid steer—combined with specialist attachments—proved to be a game changer. Tasks that would traditionally require more manual labour were completed more efficiently, with improved safety and reduced physical strain.

Building on this experience, the Tuppco training incorporated:

  • Core skid steer operation and safety practices

  • Efficient handling techniques for confined and uneven terrain

  • Use of auger attachments for rapid, precise post-hole boring

  • Safe operation of pallet forks for transporting fencing materials and equipment

This hands-on, scenario-based approach ensured the training remained directly relevant to the operators’ day-to-day work.

Enhancing Safety and Productivity

A key theme throughout the day was how attachments can transform a skid steer into a highly versatile tool on fencing projects. The auger allowed for consistent and accurate hole drilling, particularly beneficial in challenging ground conditions, while pallet forks streamlined material handling across the site.

By reinforcing best practices and introducing structured assessment criteria, the training helped the operators not only improve efficiency but also strengthen site safety standards—critical when working in environments such as wildlife parks.

Successful Outcomes

Both candidates successfully passed their NPORS training and assessments, demonstrating strong competency across all required areas. Their prior experience, combined with a willingness to engage and refine techniques, contributed to an excellent result.

A Personal Connection

Tuppco instructor Bertie Tupper particularly enjoyed delivering this session. Having previously owned and operated a fencing company himself, Bertie brought practical insight and industry understanding to the training. His background allowed him to connect with the team, share relevant experiences, and offer guidance that went beyond the standard syllabus.

Supporting Skilled Operators

At Tuppco, we recognise the value of experienced operators and the importance of aligning formal qualifications with real-world skills. This training day at Wyatt and Sons Fencing Contractors is a great example of how targeted, practical instruction can enhance both individual capability and overall project performance.
